Lee County Mosquito Control – We Appreciate You!

Living in Southwest Florida, we’re fortunate to have tax dollars that are dedicated to monitoring and controlling the mosquito populations in what is most definitely prime breeding grounds for them. I have family members who live in another state where no such control exists and they say that it can be quite unbearable outside during the summer.

Last week I spotted a Lee County Mosquito Control truck pulled over near a path that followed a small winding creek. I decided to stop and take a moment to learn more about who was helping ensure my neighborhood is protected… and also get their predictions for how bad the mosquitoes will be this summer. 😉

I started down the path and soon met up with Billy. I couldn’t have asked for a friendlier person out there protecting my family from mosquitoes! Billy has worked for Lee County Mosquito Control for many years and actually comes from a family who used to own a pest control business in Fort Myers, Florida.

He informed me that he was disappointed to find Read the rest of this entry »

Southwest Florida Mosquites

Want to be outside with minimal mosquito interference? Here are a few mosquito control methods you can try…

This is the final installment of 7 Things YOU Need to Know About Southwest Florida Mosquitoes, a FREE eBook provided by Larue Pest Management, Inc.

First of all, we just want to tell you that if you’re truly looking for effective mosquito control, don’t bother with bug zappers that use with UV light, as they only attract bugs that are drawn to light, NOT mosquitoes. You’ll end up killing beetles, moths and other innocent bugs. Mosquitoes just don’t respond to it.

Citronella candles and tiki torches are common tools in the fight against mosquitoes. Since the odor is what repels mosquitoes, you may have to sit close to the candle for it to protect you. Citronella is most effective in small areas without wind and won’t work very well in large, open areas.

If you’re serious about getting a mosquito control system for you home, Larue offers two Residential Mosquito Control Options:

Well, the truth is, only female mosquitoes bite.

Their mouths are designed to be able to pierce your skin and suck the nutrients from your blood that allow them to produce eggs.
